For over fifty years, New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) has
honored its founder Arthur Ashe’s legacy by celebrating the
diversity of children, encouraging them to reach their highest
potential through free tennis and academic programs. NYJTL is the
largest provider of youth tennis and education programs in the
nation, providing services in 100 unique sites across all five
boroughs while reaching nearly 90,000 kids. In addition, NYJTL
designed, funded (with NYC), built and operates the Cary Leeds
Center for Tennis & Learning in the South Bronx. All NYJTL
community tennis and after school programs are offered at no cost
to its participants. The mission of NYJTL is to develop the
character of young people through tennis and education for a
lifetime of success on and off the court. We believe life skills
gained through tennis, academics, healthy living, and character
development are a catalyst for long-term achievement. Position
Summary: NYJTL is seeking a full-time, in-person Afterschool SEL &
Mental Wellness Specialist to strengthen student support systems
across Bronx afterschool programs. You’ll provide brief student
support, lead SEL groups, and coach staff in trauma-informed and
restorative practices. You’ll collaborate closely with Site
Directors, school-day partners (including school social workers),
and caregivers to ensure consistent, culturally responsive support
for students. Site coverage: You’ll start at one afterschool site
for the first 3 months, then expand to support additional Bronx
sites at least once per week. Sites include: PS 075X — School of
Research and Discovery (984 Faile Street) PS 345X — LION Elementary
(730 Bryant Avenue) PS 152X — The Evergreen School (1007 Evergreen
Ave) What You’ll Do Provide brief, solution-focused student support
and respond to emotional/behavioral concerns during afterschool
hours (in partnership with school-day social work staff as needed)
Facilitate SEL skill-building groups and targeted psychoeducation
aligned to program goals Coach afterschool staff and Site Directors
on trauma-informed strategies, restorative approaches, and
SEL-aligned routines Support family engagement and help develop
culturally responsive tools/resources for sites Coordinate with
school-day staff and caregivers to support continuity for students
Lead and participate in cross-site trainings, group supervision,
and learning communities Perform other related duties aligned with
NYJTL’s afterschool and mental wellness programming Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Youth
Development, or a related field preferred (or equivalent
experience). 1-2 years of experience working with children/youth in
NYC schools, after-school, or community-based programs Strong
foundation in trauma-informed care, SEL, and restorative approaches
Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to foster positive relationships with students, families,
and program staff. Demonstrated cultural humility and experience
working with diverse communities Preferred: Master’s Degree in
Education, Psychology, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related
field preferred (or equivalent experience). NYS LMSW (or ability to
obtain within the first 6 months) Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
Experience working in NYC-based school-based settings Experience
working in Bronx-based program Familiarity with DYCD afterschool
