Purpose of Position: The Assistant Director of Pharmacy Clinical
Operations, under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, will
assist in formulating, planning, directing, administering,
coordinating, and evaluating the Pharmacy services and programs in
a hospital or hospital center. The Assistant Director will also
identify, promote, and implement safe medication practices for
inpatient, outpatient, and satellite pharmacies in coordination
with other professional and administrative disciplines. AD-Clinical
Operations additional Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assists in
formulating, developing, implementing, and directing clinical
pharmacy activities involving the review and interpretation of all
drug orders, maintenance of patient medication profiles, and
participation in direct patient care, and develops patient care
evaluation programs relating to drug utilization and effectiveness.
2. Assists in formulary management, medication therapy management,
utilization management, research, and collaboration with disease
management and medical management. 3. Review and analyze reports on
utilization management, and evaluate business needs for data
analysis. 4. Support the Drug Utilization review program. 5.
Assists in the creation of member and provider newsletters and all
clinical communications. 6. Assure medication-related practices are
being done in accordance with written policy and standards of
practice. 7. Tracks clinical interventions, assembles and evaluates
department documentation metrics. 8. Monitors the medication
reconciliation process. 9. Develop programs to enhance the clinical
skills of the pharmacy department. 10. Develop and oversee pharmacy
residency programs. 11. Develop and oversee patient medication
programs. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Directs pharmaceutical
personnel with respect to compounding and dispensing of drugs, in
accordance with prescribed policies and standards and legal
requirements, requisitioning and procurement of drugs and
pharmaceutical supplies, inventory control and maintenance, storage
of supplies and their issuance and maintenance of such controls and
standards, orderliness and cleanliness of Pharmacy area, and
inspection programs. 2. Participates with the health care setting
in formulation and development of policies regarding the
evaluation, selection, procurement, storage, distribution, use, and
all other matters relating to drugs in the hospital, with
consideration being given to the following: a. Drug Formulary; b.
Evaluations or clinical data on new drugs or preparations for use
in health care settings; c. Investigational drug protocols; and d.
Drugs to be stocked and other related services 3. Assists in
developing, recommending and implementing pharmaceutical service
programs consistent with the medication needs of the patients,
including control and accountability of drug products throughout
the health care setting. 4. Collaborates in the development, makes
recommendations and implements programs of records management,
whereby records are correlated with other health care setting
records, in accordance with the health care setting’s procedures
and practices, such as: a. Transactions of the Pharmacy; b. Record
systems and bookkeeping, in accordance with accounting department
standards; and c. Controls over requisitioning and dispensing of
drugs and pharmaceutical supplies 5. Assists in formulating,
developing, implementing and directing clinical pharmacy activities
involving the review and interpretation of all drug orders,
maintenance of patient medication profiles and participation in
direct patient care, and develops patient care evaluation programs
relating to drug utilization and effectiveness . 6. Assists in the
development and preparation of financial goals and pharmacy budget
based on System-wide initiatives and competitive business trends.
Assists in making recommendations regarding staffing patterns. 7.
Communicates and manages relationships across the System to promote
staff engagement and offer support. 8. Assists in selection of the
Pharmacy personnel, guides them in their performance, trains and
reviews their performance, makes recommendations regarding the
efficiency of department personnel (their performances, potential
and development), and follows through in accordance with System’s
policies and programs in personnel and labor relations on such
matters as compensation, classification, training programs,
discipline, employee morale, grievance resolution, etc. 9. Works
with Director of Pharmacy Services to maintain all pharmacy
accreditations and ensure compliance. 10. Assists develops
information and in-service training programs for nursing and
medical staff with respect to drug therapy and side effects. 11.
Participates in the preparation and review of System-wide policies
and procedures, as related to Pharmacy initiatives. 12.
Participates and assists in community events, such as brown bag,
flu pods and others as requested by Pharmacy or System leadership.
13. Stays current with professional organizations and governing
regulatory bodies as it affects the scope of practice of licensed
Pharmacy professionals. 14. Performs related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid license and current registration to
practice as a Pharmacist issued by the New York State Department of
Education (NYSED); and 2. Four (4) years of satisfactory full-time
experience as a licensed practicing Pharmacist, of which at least
two (2) years shall have been in an administrative, managerial or
supervisory capacity in a Pharmacy in a hospital, health or medical
