Job Description:

The Counselor, reporting to Director of Health and Counseling, is responsible for providing individual and group therapy to students at an IACS accredited counseling center. Other duties include consultation with administration, faculty and staff; providing training, outreach, education; and assessment and intervention for substance use issues; and completing appropriate documentation. Hours may include one evening per week, AND OTHER OCCASIONAL EVENING AND WEEKEND HOURS, AS NEEDED. Position works from late August through early June with specified breaks during academic year.

Essential Functions:

* Provide assessments, individual and group therapy for students presenting with mental health concerns, in accordance with Ethical Principles of the American Psychological Association. * Provide crisis intervention and emergency assessments to students as indicated. * Provide psychological/substance abuse assessments/interventions and referrals for self-referred students and students who have been referred to the Counseling Center through academic or administrative offices due to substance use violations on the GCU campus. * Provide educational opportunities to the campus community through written material, outreach programming, etc. * Provide consultation with administration, faculty and staff. * Work collaboratively with other key departments on campus in regard to outreach. * Engage in regular on-going contact with Residence Life staff to coordinate services. * Establish and maintain relationships with key individuals and agencies in the community. * Develop programs which address special needs of a multicultural student population. * Maintain accurate documentation OF ALL CLINICAL ACTIVITIES USING TITANIUM SCHEDULE SOFTWARE, including compiling data for various reports. * Participate in weekly supervision with Director of Health and Counseling, and weekly staff meetings. * Participate in professional development activities. * Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice, and service in all aspects of interaction. * Perform other related duties as assigned.


* Master's degree required; doctoral degree preferred. * NJ - licensed (LCSW, LPC, or licensed psychologist); or license eligible in New Jersey. * Minimum of five years of job-related experience required; depending on current department needs, this experience could include: providing individual and group therapy; crisis intervention; emergency evaluations and assessments regarding psychiatric hospitalization and mental status evaluations; programming and outreach regarding mental health topics, and consultation. * FAMILIARITY WITH TITANIUM SCHEDULE SOFTWARE * Prior experience with clients 18 years of age and older required. * Excellent interpersonal, communication, outreach and organizational skills. * Familiarity with and commitment to Ethical Principles of APA.
