Adoption Assistance Wellness Program Responsibilities Job Summary: Serves as a primary support resource to the technical staff (in assigned section) at CHI Franciscan Health System (CHI-FH) laboratories in accordance with established procedures and regulatory accreditation agency requirements. Work involves a variety of support activities, including monitoring supply levels, conducting inventory counts, providing customer service/communications support, making daily rounds to ensure environmental safety and infection control standards are maintained, and placing/tracking facilities and Biomed work orders. An incumbent uses the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for a variety of data entry and tracking activities, including log-in of test samples, finding missing samples, organizing and distributing work lists, and documenting testing details. Work requires: 1) ability to communicate effectively, 2) exemplify customer service and 3) knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment, ordering and receiving, verifying specimens and specimen requirements, and skills in using a laboratory information system. Essential Duties: Provides communication support using established standards. Serves as a resource to customers to collect information requests or concerns; resolving or bringing issues forward as appropriate. Utilizes laboratory information systems (LIS) for a variety of support activities which may include (but not limited to), registration, order entry, log in of test samples, test cancellations, modifications, add-ons, footnoting, tracking overdue testing, finding missing samples, follow up on inaccurate collections, and pulling pending logs to assure that testing deadlines are achieved; organizes and distributes testing work lists and sample testing details. Performs supply and equipment support activities in accordance with all procedures and protocols to ensure products are available and testing is not delayed which may include, but not limited to, monitoring supply stock, ordering supplies and equipment, rotating stock according to expiration dates, sequestering stock to assure that appropriate lot numbers are being used, performing reagent verifications, daily stocking, annual inventory checks, investigating back order issues and communicating directly with vendor and/or purchasing staff. Performs pre-analytical processing in area of responsibility. May include loading analyzers with samples for testing, prioritizing and balancing work load for work group. Assures hospital infection prevention, facility safety standards and established protocols are maintained through daily rounding including monitoring, cleaning and maintaining lab equipment. Places and/or tracks needed work orders with BioMed, facilities and environmental services. Completes environmental surveillance auditing tool in area of responsibility on scheduled rotation. Acts as a resource for area of assignment through orienting and training students or new or current employees. May assist in writing new procedures or processes; explains new and/or revised procedures, forms or other tools to staff; may demonstrate new systems, PC applications, equipment or supplies. Performs department specific tasks as assigned which may include, but not limited to, bone marrow assist, microbiology set ups, issue blood products, troubleshoot issues and identify work flow or training opportunities, safety or other regulatory issues within scope of authority. Participates in performance improvement activities; makes recommendations for process improvements related to work flow by suggesting alternatives or determining root causes for delays. Engages other work groups and/or higher authority to make changes to optimize the flow of patient samples in the area of responsibility. Performs related duties as required. Qualifications Education/Work Experience Requirements High school diploma (or GED equivalent) and two years of related clinical laboratory work experience required. Licensure/Certification Phlebotomy Registry PBT (ASCP) or MLT is preferred. #missioncritical
