Job Description:

*Summary*Under the direction of the Patient Financial ServiceManager, the Patient Financial Counselor will assign, oversee, and participate in all tasks related to the provision of excellent customer service to the patients of ADH, whether by telephone, written communication or face-to-face with patients. He/she will be expected to adhere to all ADH quality and quantity standards.*Essential Responsibilities: *The primary role of the Patient Financial Counseloris to act as liaison between ADH and its patients. Additional responsibilities include:* Ensure that all patients and/or authorized representatives contacting billing via phone calls or portal receive thorough, accurate and complete answers to any questions they may have related to any medical service provided by ADH.* Work with all ADH departments, staff, and physicians to resolve any patients' account issues that may arise due to internal or external processes.* Gathering and application of all payments and remittance advice via automated and manual methods.* Must be able to ascertain the extent to which a patient may be financially liable for a service(s) rendered by ADH and, when appropriate, inform patient of his/her benefit level and financial responsibility as well as follow these situations until completely resolved.* Educate patients on issue-specific topics that may help to avoid future misunderstandings.* Must review credit balance queue to determine which refunds are appropriate and due and initiate process to resolve credit balance.* Must review accounts scheduled for placement with an outside collection agency and make attempts to communicate with patients and/or ADH physician prior to such placement.* Be aware of and alert ADH management to any repetitive issues, concerns or confusions that may seem to be trending amongst patients.* Continually review and make suggestions to improve ADH's processes as they relate to patient interactions.* Audits accuracy of demographic and insurance information to ensure maximum reimbursement in accordance with ADH collection policy.* Review, determining and subsequently calculating patient eligibility for upfront discount and/or compassionate discount in compliance and as per policies.* Prescreens patients to determine eligibility for Self-Pay* Provides Financial Estimates for our patients in accordance with policy; ensures accuracy of therelated calculations, clear and timely communication.* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.E., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).* Other duties and/or projects as assigned by the *Patient Financial Services Manager**Essential Skills: *The Patient Financial Counselor must be extremely detail oriented.Must be able to comprehend all issues raised by ADH patients and be able to articulate those issues to any involved person(s) needed to assist in their complete resolution. He/she should also possess a:* Basic understanding of CPT and ICD coding.* Basic understanding of rudimentary medical terminology.* The Patient Financial Specialist Must Demonstrate Comprehensive knowledge of In-Network and Out-of-Network rules and regulations as they relate to claims adjudication and patient billing.* Excellent judgement and decision making.* Problem solving and organizational skills* Reliability, Accuracy and Efficiency when dealing with patients or third-party payors.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.* Excellent interpersonal skills.*Education and Experience Required*:* High-school diploma or GED.* 2 years' experience in a large medical practice or hospital in a patient-facing role.* Minimum of one (1) years' experience performing tasks related to each of the departments within ADH's Revenue Cycle Management Dept.* Proficiency with Microsoft office products including Word and Excel.* Basic familiarity with the concepts of debits and credits.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:* 401(k)* Dental insurance* Disability insurance* Flexible spending account* Health insurance* Health savings account* Life insurance* Paid time off* Vision insuranceSchedule:* Monday to Friday* No weekendsAbility to commute/relocate:* West Long Branch, NJ 07764: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)Experience:* Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)* Microsoft Word: 1 year (Preferred)Work Location: One location
