Job Title: Endoscopy Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 hours Hours per Shift: 37.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year of endoscopy or PACU experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS ACLS Must-Have: Endoscopy or PACU experience is required. Prefer scrub experience, PACU experience, GI experience, and sedation experience. Description: The position involves preparing the endoscopy suite, ensuring all equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly. Assists in patient positioning and verifying procedural details while reviewing patient consent. Assists the endoscopist during procedures such as handling instruments and managing equipment. Anticipates procedural needs and maintains accurate documentation. Involves biopsies, collecting and handling specimens, cautery, and capturing foreign objects with baskets and forceps. RNs are very involved in GI procedures; there are no endoscopy technicians in the procedural room. In the recovery area, the RN is responsible for recovering post-procedure endoscopy patients. The RN assesses vital signs and levels of consciousness while monitoring for adverse reactions or complications. Pain management, patient education, and medication administration are also key responsibilities. The RN collaborates with the healthcare team and provides continuous observation until the patient is stable and meets discharge criteria. Common cases include upper and lower scopes, colonoscopy, EGDs, ERCPs, and PEG placements. Charge nurses or supervisors will provide oversight in the unit. There are health care technicians present, assisting during recovery and scope reprocessing. Anesthesia determines the number of rooms open for procedures. Shifts are typically Monday through Friday, starting between 0900 and 1000. There are no weekend or holiday call requirements. Floating is required within endoscopy. Scrub color for the unit is royal blue.
